Carpenter Ants

We will thoroughly inspect your home and yard to identify and treat nests. It is not always possible to identify a nest location, but the products we use will eliminate the problem even if we cannot access it directly. We will communicate the management strategy, course, and outcome. We will also identify factors contributing to carpenter ant infestations.

Bees/Hornets/Wasps

The Downes Pest technician will identify the type of insect in order to treat appropriately. We avoid treating honeybees.

Other types of wasps and hornets can be very aggressive when disturbed. Products available to the general public will agitate insects and do not usually eliminate the nest. Further, if the nest is in a wall, these products can force the insects to move deeper - potentially into your home.

The products available to licensed professionals do not agitate the insects. They will continue to use the nest entrance and, through a transfer process, the nest will be eliminated.

Mosquitoes & Ticks

In recent years the concern for illnesses related to mosquitoes and ticks has increased significantly. Ticks now survive through the relatively mild winter months and remain active year-round.

For mosquitoes, we provide targeted treatment to harborage areas, carefully avoiding treatment near flowering trees, shrubs, and gardens. We use biological solutions for the treatment of ponds or other bodies of water where mosquitoes flourish.

Recommendations to decrease mosquito populations that are individual to each property will be made. For best results, we recommend season-long service, which is treatment every 3 weeks.

Bedbugs

This is not a bug to "manage"; it is one to eliminate. A bedbug infestation is not a result of poor hygiene or housekeeping. Bedbugs can travel in luggage from an infested hotel to your home.

Bedbugs live and breed in cracks and crevices, and come out at night to feed on the blood of their sleeping, unsuspecting human prey.

It is important to provide an effective and long-lasting solution because bedbugs are very resilient.

Proper application of the correct products is critical, or bedbug re-infestation will occur. It is also necessary to educate all people living and/or working in the structure on methods to stop the transfer of bedbugs from place to place. We provide an appropriate, thorough treatment to eliminate bedbugs.

Termites

Termites live in the surrounding areas and can access your home as a food source. If left untreated, they can cause significant structural damage. The cost of treatment is determined by size, terrain, and the existence of barriers to treatment such as decks, patios, driveways, etc.

We will perform a thorough inspection to determine the presence of termites and /or termite damage.

We offer two treatment options:

Baiting System: We will install termite stations at regular intervals around your home. The stations are monitored quarterly for activity. The newest generation stations are very effective in quickly eliminating active colonies and preventing future infestations. This system is effective when maintained regularly by a licensed professional and is environmentally friendly.

Liquid Treatment: We dig a trench around the perimeter of the structure, creating a complete ring, and fill it with termiticide. Care is taken to avoid vegetation and water sources. The termites will contact the treated area and transfer the product to the rest of the colony. The colony will subsequently be eliminated. This treatment offers a 5-year limited warranty.

Wood Destroying Insect Reports (NPMA-33): We provide inspections and supporting documentation required by mortgage companies.

Mice

Mice can access your home through openings as small as the eraser on the tip of a pencil. We want to stop more from getting in by excluding identified areas. We use wildlife sealant to block holes up to the size of a baseball. If we identify larger access areas, we will inform the customer and make further recommendations.

To eliminate the population that already exists, we use rodent stations that contain bait. The stations are placed and secured strategically. The opening to the station is small and only accessible to a mouse.

Complete elimination is not always possible despite our best efforts. Regular maintenance may be required to stay ahead of the problem, or more extensive exclusion may be indicated. We will communicate all the options clearly.

Rats

Rats are elusive and destructive. We use a combination of exclusion, traps, and rodent stations to eliminate the problem. We will make recommendations to eliminate environments that attract and support rats.

Regular maintenance is often required to maintain the population below the identified threshold.
